Meribel in France is one of the top destinations for snowboarding and skiing. It has been the best place to travel to during Christmas where there is not much of the sun and the snow can be falling until the latter weeks of January. This holiday destination is one of the best areas for Alpine skiing. There are many world class resorts in the area including the Alps, Les Menuires, Courchevel, and Val Thorens. All resorts can be accessed via a systemized lift network that can take tourists from once place to the other while getting a grand view of Meribel.
Preparing for a Meribel Trip
If you were to go to Meribel for skiing, make some preparatory exercises for about 6 to 8 weeks before the trip. It is advised to lose some weight because you are sure to gain some of it again when you dine in the top restaurants and experience the best chalet food Meribel has to offer.
Make sure that you have the right fitted boots, short skis that can allow you to freely move. Remember that unfit clothes and shoes can instantly give your back, ankles, toes or shins some damage. Get ready with your high quality hat and ski mittens. Carry with you large lenses sunglasses and sun cream to protect you from the UV rays of the sun.
You can get a map from the tourist office, talk with lift companies or research/download the 3 valley piste map that you can use during your trip.
Accommodations
There are a number of accommodations that you can find in the area. They are composed of apartments, chalets, hotels, and bed and breakfasts. A lot of people find chalets Maribel pretty amusing because of its cozy feel. People love the traditional and native ambience of Swiss homes that are made of wood with sloping wide roofs. Courchevel apartments are also popular here because they have very big homes that can have as much as 9 bedrooms that can hold as much as 20 people.
Where to Ski
If you are a beginner, the best place to ski is at the Meribel Altiport Ski Area. It is accessed via the Rhodos Gondola and the Meribel Center. You can also get their through Morel Chair via Meribel 1600. If you are taking lessons, you can head at the Meribel Altiport to practice. There is a protected green run here for skiing. You can also ski down the Meribel Village when you are confident enough. The piste here is usually quiet and you can also take a free bus back to Meribel Town. Other places to ski for beginners are in Mottaret, where you can ski down the Trout that starts just at the left area of the tourist office. You can also ski down Rossignol and Sitelle pistes that pass between the first and second stages of Platters. Meribel ski lifts are located strategically in these areas for easy transport.
