Houston Fireman Charged with DUI on Safety Visit to Church

A Houston County fire fighter could lose his job after state troopers accused him of driving a fire truck under the influence of alcohol.

23-year-old Jordan Bouley wound-up in jail, when he was supposed to be speaking to children about fire safety.

According to Houston Fire Chief Jimmy Williams, Jordan Bouley was the only fire fighter on duty at the Carl Vinson Parkway fire station Thursday morning.

Around 10 a.m., he left in a fire truck to give a public safety education course at Trinity United Methodist Church in Warner Robins.

Williams said, "We got a call from a residence who noticed one of our fire trucks driving erratically and hit a mail box."

Williams says Houston County 911 called the Georgia State Patrol to give 23-year-old Jordan Bouley a breathalyzer test, which allegedly found him under the influence of alcohol.

Corporal Elbert Slappy with GSP says a resident at 293 Collins Avenue orginally made the call to Houston County 911, after seeing the fire truck strike his mailbox and a DOT road sign.

Slappy says Bouley was arrested and charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane, hit and run and a probation violation.

According to Houston jail records, Bouley was on probation from another DUI arrest.

Williams says the county has a zero tolerance policy for employees using alcohol or drugs on the job.

He said, "That policy is in place, but you would think it's common sense, especially in public safety."

Williams says Bouley is now on unpaid, administrative leave pending termination.

The chief plans to meet with the rest of his firefighters next week to review county policies, and what he calls a "higher standard" for public safety workers.

He said, "Certianly, we do not condone this, and were not going to tolerate that in the department, and will do what it takes to make sure the public is safe."

Williams says Bouley came on duty Thursday morning about 7 a.m. and was supposed to get off at 4 p.m.

He says it's normal for only one fire fighter to be on duty per station, and that volunteers are brought in if there's an emergency.

Bouley started working for Houston County fire about a year ago.
