Alternative Health Information Blog: Homeopathy For All Your Ailments

Homeopathic medicine is just one of many alternative medicines making a comeback in the U.S., which is strange since homeopathy is the second most commonly, used form of medicine in the world. Homeopathy like many of the other alternative medicines is based on the body's innate capacity to heal itself. With homeopathy a minute dose of a natural substance is consumed to stimulate self-healing. The basis for homeopathy is centered on the idea of "like cures like". This means that the substance that causes symptoms in a healthy individual will also cure those same symptoms in a sick person.

A German doctor named Samuel Hahnemann in the 19th century created homeopathy. It quickly spread around the world, and was refined by medical doctors. In the late 19th century and early 20th century the US became the center of homeopathic development. However like many of its counterparts, conventional medical doctors pushed out homeopathy to the fringes of the medical community. Nevertheless, homeopathy still grew in its use worldwide. Hundreds of millions of people in more than 80 countries use homeopathy. In addition homeopathy is part of national healthcare systems in the UK, Germany, France, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Brazil and Mexico.

Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine. It treats the entire spectrum of human illness both physical and emotional. Examples include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, back pain, fatigue, insomnia, allergies, arthritis, skin conditions, menopausal/hormonal conditions, auto-immune disease, ADHD, neurological conditions, etc. With over 200 years of use, homeopathy is likely the safest medical discipline with absolutely no attributed deaths. There are almost no reports of serious adverse effects because unlike hers or nutrients, homeopathy has no interaction with conventional drugs or surgical procedures. Furthermore there are no adverse side effects like prescription drugs or surgery. Even if the incorrect remedy is given, nothing will happen because the body only responds to the correct remedy.

Homeopathic medicine is much like many other medical professions in the sense that physicians must go through rigorous training. The homeopathic practitioner consults, examines and treats patients. Consultation may include an extensive interview followed by a physical examination. To determine a remedy the practitioner must not only take in to account the pathology but also the patient themselves. Homeopathic remedies are specially prepared in the forms of small white pellets, which dissolve under the tongue. Follow up appointments with a homeopathic practitioner are needed to manage the case.

If you want to be one of the millions of people worldwide who use homeopathy, look for a homeopathic practitioner in your area today.

Basics Of The Business Continuity Policy | Business Finance Solutions

The purpose of a business continuity policy (BCP) is to ensure normal operations during and after incidents that could potentially destroy or disrupt the firm?s activities. This could be anything from natural disasters to supply chain breakdowns or the loss of key employees. Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR or BC/DR) is a well defined process.

This is a vital element of risk management for every company, but the scope of the process can vary depending on the firm?s size and what it does. For instance, manufacturers should allow every division to come up with its own BCP. But an office or a leader has to be appointed to oversee the process and ensure compliance for the whole company.

IT divisions need to put in more effort because they need both a BCP and a company-wide DRP aka a disaster recovery plan. This will spell out in detail how they plan to stay online and bounce back after a disaster. The plan has to state clearly that the company has the capability to switch to backup servers in the event of a crash.

In addition, they might have to maintain the ability to quickly install and configure email, web and other servers the company uses. By logical inference, this requires the IT department to state that they have backups available to restore any data that might be lost. The physical loss of cabling and networking equipment require a capability to lay out a whole new LAN. The head of the division has to come up with solutions to all such eventualities to keep the network operational.

This process and its implementation are too important to be trusted in the hands of one person or department. A BCP is usually drafted as per regional or industry standards. The plan has to be approved at multiple levels and verified for compliance. The approval process can be done internally within the division, but the subsequent compliance check will be performed by the office or person assigned the BCP leader role.

It?s not always easy to know where to start with BC/DR or how to do it the right way. There are free standard BCP templates available on the web that can provide a fair idea of what components the policy should include. An expert or a consultant can be hired to create or customize continuity policies for the company.

Some people get mixed up between a business continuity policy and disaster recovery plan. These are two different things, but with overlapping functions and purposes. The slash in BC/DR signifies the separation and the need for each division to come up with its own BCP. At the same time, it also indicates that divisions need to collaborate and come up with a set of policies and plans that protect the entire company.

China celebrate record Olympic pool haul

China will celebrate their best ever Olympic swimming performance on Sunday and hope an unprecedented badminton clean sweep can put them back on top of the London Games medals table.

After Sun Yang's record-breaking heroics in the Aquatics Centre pool, badminton great Lin Dan takes on arch-rival Lee Chong Wei in a men's final for the ages, while Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng will vie for the doubles crown.

Despite having two players sent home in a match-throwing scandal, China have already won the women's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles as they eye all five badminton titles.

"The Chinese team is a great team. If it is challenged it is encouraged to turn it into something positive," said Zhao Yunlei, after adding women's doubles to her mixed doubles title.

Even after Zhao and Tian Qing's doubles title, and an upset women's singles win for Li Xuerui, China head into day nine on 25 golds, one behind the United States in the medals table after the Americans enjoyed a successful campaign in the pool.

China could struggle to top the medals' table for the second Games in a row, having won 51 golds in the 2008 Games they hosted in Beijing.

But the Chinese can also toast their best ever pool performance after Sun smashed his own 1500m world record to take their total to five gold medals.

Sun roared and smashed the water in delight, and then wept tears of joy, on Saturday after he lowered the mark for the second time in a year and claimed a second title after the 400m.

Jiao Liuyang had won the women's 200m butterfly and Ye Shiwen, 16, took out both women's individual medleys -- including a world record in the 400m. But Sun was angered when he was asked about doping suspicions levelled at Ye.

"People think China has so many gold medals because of doping and other substances, but I can tell you it is because of hard work," he snapped.

"It is all down to training and hard work that we have results. Chinese are not weaker than those in other countries... If you hear critics about athletes from your country, how would you feel?"

On Sunday, China will also look to capture their fifth diving title in the women's 3m springboard, where veteran Wu Minxia is seeking a sixth career medal to draw level with her former partner, "Diving Queen" Guo Jingjing.

But Wu will have to shake off Italy's Tania Cagnotto, who qualified second for the final raising the prospect that she could interrupt China's march to all eight titles.

In Saturday's action, India grabbed their first badminton medal when Saina Nehwal took bronze in the women's singles, helped by an injury to her opponent Wang Xin.

"When she sat down I thought it was all part of getting tired, but it wasn't. And it was very sad what happened," Nehwal said of Wang.

"But it's really unbelievable to get a bronze because we have all worked so hard for this. I am very happy to have been able to do this for my country."

But India's hopes for tennis glory went up in smoke when Leander Paes and Sania Mirza lost to top seeds Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka from Belarus in the mixed doubles quarter-finals.

Elsewhere, Chen Ding won China's first ever men's Olympic 20km walk title in a Games-record time of 1hr 18 min 46sec.

In this Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 photo, preparations are ongoing for the opening of the Indiana State Fair at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, in Indianapolis. The Indiana State Fair opens Friday with many changes after last year's deadly stage collapse and hopes of promoting healing as organizers try to move beyond the shadow of the collapse. But there will be many changes _ no concerts at the grandstand, higher ticket prices, paid parking that once was free. Fair officials say there are new offerings too, including more concerts on a newly regulated free stage. (AP Photo/The Indianapolis Star, Rob Goebel ) NO SALES

(AP) ? Visitors poured into the Indiana State Fair on opening day Friday, signaling they were ready to move on from last summer's deadly stage collapse and to re-embrace the popular annual event after its most trying year.

The strong early attendance was a good sign for fair officials who hope this year's event, which celebrates dairy cows, is one of emotional and economic healing. The fair saw revenue and attendance plummet last year after high winds knocked stage rigging onto a crowd of fans awaiting a concert by country duo Sugarland, and many have questioned whether the event often likened to a family reunion would ever be the same.

Fairgoers Friday seemed to have shrugged off any lingering safety concerns as they crowded around stands peddling elephant ears, corndogs and deep-fried bubblegum.

Ashley Gregory, 21, of Danville, Ind., who was in the grandstand at last year's Sugarland concert but wasn't injured, said the fair "feels different" this year but that she couldn't stay away.

"I love the state fair. I'll always come back to the support the fair," said Gregory, who paused to reflect by a plaque honoring the seven people killed in the collapse.

The collapse led to months of investigations and lawsuits amid questions about why the show wasn't canceled or postponed. Fair officials made big changes to their safety procedures for this year's event and changed the organization's management structure. Lawmakers passed a bill requiring state inspections of such temporary structures.

"It's probably a good eye-opener for everyone, what happened last year," said Paul Hunt, 39, of Avon, Ind., who arrived early with his wife, Courtney, to watch their daughter perform in the morning band competition.

Even so, fairgoers will feel the impact of last year's collapse.

Ticket prices are up and a new parking fee has been implemented as officials try to recover from a steep drop in revenue after the collapse, which forced the fair to cancel several big concerts and close for a day. Attendance was down 8 percent from 2010, and the fair's overall revenue fell from $11.9 million in 2010 to $8.38 million in 2011.

This year's headline concerts, which include shows from Barry Manilow, Train and Blake Shelton, have been moved to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis. That takes people ? and the money they'd spend at the fair ? off the fairgrounds for events that typically are big draws.

Fair organizers hope to offset that impact by increasing shows on a permanent free stage, where acts like REO Speedwagon and MC Hammer will perform. The grandstand will offer more thrill-based entertainment, like motorcycle races, tractor pulls and monster truck rallies.

"This is the most programmed that we've ever been," fair spokesman Andy Klotz said.

The fair also is promoting options for discounted tickets and is offering concertgoers who attend the downtown shows free admission on any day of the 17-day fair.

"We believe this fair will be about healing," said Fair Commission Executive Director Cindy Hoye.

While she says the fair must move on and get back to being a place where people go to celebrate Indiana tradition, Hoye noted it's important to pay respects to the victims of the collapse.

A moment of silence is planned for 8:46 p.m. Aug. 13, the anniversary of the collapse. Amusement rides, games and concession stands will come to a halt, perhaps for as long as five minutes.

Lindsey Lewis, 21, a Purdue University student from Greenfield who was at the grandstand with a friend the night of the collapse but left as storm clouds approached, said many people came together to grieve for the victims last year even if they didn't know them.

"I think that's what this year is all about ? coming together," she said.

NASA spacecraft barreling toward a Mars landing

(AP) ? NASA's Curiosity rover is zooming toward Mars.

With about a day to go until a landing attempt, the space agency says the nuclear-powered rover appears on course.

Tension will be high Sunday night when Curiosity plummets through the thin Martian atmosphere and attempts to set its six wheels down on the surface.

During the "seven minutes of terror" plunge, it will steer itself part of the way and in the final seconds ? if all goes as planned ? cables will lower the rover to the ground.

This novel, controlled way of landing was necessary because Curiosity is too heavy to bounce to a stop using air bags.

The $2.5 billion Mars mission is the most high-tech and priciest yet. It will expand beyond previous missions' search for water.

Missile defense workers warned: No porn on the job

10 hrs.

Employees of the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency, which develops and tests the military's missile systems, were warned to stop browsing porn at work in a strongly?worded memo, Bloomberg reports.

Out of 8,000 employees, six were accused of "accessing websites, or transmitting messages, containing pornographic or sexually explicit images" using the MDA network, said a?July 27 memo from the agency's executive director, John James Jr.

He cited misuse of the employees' and contractors' time, and violation of regulations, and also suggested the porn sites were potentially dangerous and could compromise the network. A study recently found that such sites are in fact often safer than personal sites, but apparently the sites in question "were?known to have had virus and malware issues," according to an email sent to Bloomberg by an agency spokesman.

While employees may not agree with the director's risk assessment, they are probably less likely to visit such sites after this reminder that their Internet browsing is being closely monitored. The accused have not yet been disciplined, but may lose their clearance or even their jobs.

BNP Paribas takes investment banking knock in Q2

PARIS (AP) ? French bank BNP Paribas saw its earnings fall significantly in the second quarter, driven in part by a downturn in its corporate and investment banking division.

France's largest bank by revenue said Thursday net income dropped 13.2 percent in the April-to-June period to ?1.8 billion ($2.2 billion).

Its revenues slumped 8 percent to ?10.1 billion as corporate and investment banking clients pulled back business in light of the uncertainty of Europe's debt crisis and the global economic slowdown.

Revenue at the corporate and investment banking arm fell 23.6 percent over the second quarter last year. "Against a general background of crisis in the capital markets and strong volatility, there was less demand from clients," the company said.

Europe's banks have been particularly squeezed by the continent's debt crisis. They often hold large amounts of government bonds, whose value has plummeted as countries have either gone bankrupt or teetered on the brink.

In addition, just as their balance sheets were taking a hit, banks were asked by European regulators to increase the quality of the assets they hold, so they can better weather any storms ahead. As they tucked away more money in those rainy-day funds, banks sometimes struggled to come up with enough cash to fund their day-to-day operations. In particular, as U.S. investors grew wary of Europe's crisis, the banks often found it hard to get dollar funding.

But BNP Paribas said Thursday that it had shored up its liquidity situation ? as the cash kept on hand for short-term financing is called. It now has ?200 billion in immediately available reserves, which the bank said satisfies nearly 100 percent of its short-term wholesale funding needs.

The bank also noted that it had nearly achieved the 9 percent ratio of good assets to risky ones that new international banking regulations will require by the end of the year.
