Wilson and Joske reach Round 3 of Vans US Open of Surfing trials ? Surfing news

America?s Chase Wilson and Australia?s Heath Joske made it through into the third round of trials at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime Vans US Open of Surfing after walking away with the win in their respective Round 2 heats that went down at the Huntington Beach Pier in California, America, on Sunday, July 21, 2013.

France?s Maxime Huscenot and America?s Ian Crane also managed to successfully extend their life in the contention for a place in the main event site after securing second place in their Round 2 heats, finishing behind Wilson and Joske respectively.

The exciting surfing talent put on quite a show for the crowd in attendance as they battled it out in clean four-to-six waves that were gracing the main event site.

Finding himself pitted against Huscenot, Australia?s Thomas Woods and local talent Taylor Clark in the third heat of Round 2, Wilson had his work cut out for him.

However, the American surfer put his local knowledge of the waves to use and made some really good wave selections. Collecting a 5.60 off his first business wave and backing it up with an 8.40-point ride, Wilson finished with a heat-total of 14.00 points. The score served to seal the fate of the four-man battle in his favour.

Huscenot managed to grab a couple of decent scores to get to a heat-total of 11.54 points, which proved sufficient to put him in second place and thus take him through into the next round.

Woods finished in third place with a heat-total of 10.10 points, while Clark registered a two-wave total of 6.87 points. Both the surfers consequently found themselves eliminated from the trials.

The fourth heat of Round 2 featured Joske locking horns with American surfers Crane and Austin Ware, as well as Hawaiian talent Makai McNamara.

The Australian surfer got off to a solid start, earning a 7.10 off his first business-wave and went on to add an additional 6.07 points to his account, thus getting to a heat-total of 13.17 points. The score kept him ahead of his rivals until the end to earn him the win.

Crane finished second with a heat-total of 9.36 points, thus staying alive in the contention for a place in the main event.

Ware and McNamara only managed a heat-total of 7.90 points, thus having to settle for third and fourth place respectively.
