Windows phone and playing catch up go hand in hand... MS just tries to find excuses to play catch up... and it's fans keep using yesterday's software....

Translated: If we did it now we'd suck at it. We'll wait until Apple and Google finish doing the heavy lifting of perfecting the technology, then swoop in and take credit for it.

Actually no. If you look at the kinds of innovations coming out of Microsoft Research you'd be pretty impressed. It's just that a lot of what is shown never really gets made into a product for them.

Don't doubt their ability to compete, especially when it comes to things like this. They have have neural network structures for R&D purposes that rivals IBM, Google etc.

Actually, if you look at Microsoft's R&D budget, it's been historically a top spender for a long time.

MS doesn't swoop in and take the credit for stuff, That would be Apple. They may come in later and do it different. Usually it turns out better than the others. I'm sure that they would rather present a useful product instead of some gimmicky, snarky assistant.

They have a voice recognition search.. just doesnt talk back to you (Unless it doesn't understand you).. long story short it functions the same, just does interact with you. I find its better than Siri or Google searches.. but still not worth the effort to use.

Translation: Microsoft does not feel the need to spend money on something that is expected of us. Instead we will take that money and continue to stage rigged "Beat by Windows Phone Events" and push up the release of Windows Blue from 7 months to 6 all the while not including a start button. In addition we also plan to release more Windows RT products even though they are functionally useless even compared to functionally inferior full line product.
