As our new fantasy football mock draft continues to advance, we have completed another round.
Here are the results for Round 6:
6.01 - Sean Beazley (Team 3): Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, Indianapolis Colts
After being released by the Giants earlier this offseason, Bradshaw landed with the Colts, where he should see the largest share of touches in Pep Hamilton's offense. While dealing with lower-leg injuries for most of his career, Bradshaw has two 1,000-yard seasons in the past three years.
6.02 - Kevin Hanson (Team 3): Eric Decker, WR, Denver Broncos
Along with Demaryius Thomas, Decker had a career season last year: 85 receptions (on 123 targets) for 1,064 yards and 13 touchdowns.
With the addition of Wes Welker to the team's receiving corps to replace Brandon Stokley, however, Decker will likely see less targets over the next year or two. But he is still a solid WR3 for this team behind Green and Garcon.
6.03 - Brendan Donahue (Team 3): Shane Vereen, RB, New England Patriots
Vereen has the potential to be a solid flex option and even a low-end RB2 in 12-team leagues if things go right for him in 2013.
Now part of the Chargers backfield, Danny Woodhead nearly finished as an RB2 in fantasy leagues last year. Much of his workload could/should find its way to Vereen, who had 162 yards from scrimmage, seven receptions and three touchdowns in two playoff games for the Patriots last year.
In addition, Vereen is likely to see a bunch of the targets that would have gone to ex-Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, which boosts his fantasy value further.
6.04 - Dan Yanotchko (Team 3): Antonio Brown, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
After breaking out in 2011 with 1,108 yards, Brown had a disappointing season in 2012. Not only did he miss three games last year, but his average yards per game (60.5) and per reception (11.9) dropped from 69.3 and 16.1, respectively.
With 60 Minutes departing via free agency, however, Brown will have the opportunity to have a bounce-back season and take a step forward in 2013. On a positive note, he averaged a career-high 5.1 receptions per game and caught five touchdown passes.
6.05 - Dan Yanotchko (Team 2): Stevie Johnson, WR, Buffalo Bills
Since breaking out three seasons ago, Johnson has been remarkably consistent. He has finished each of those seasons with 76-82 receptions and 1,004-1,073 yards per season.
With rookie E.J. Manuel (or Kevin Kolb) at quarterback, there may be some risk of him falling short of those numbers in 2013. Then again, he reached those numbers with The Amish Rifle getting him the ball the past three seasons.
6.06 - Kevin Hanson (Team 2): Josh Gordon, WR, Cleveland Browns
A tremendous athlete with great size (6-3, 225) as a receiver, Gordon had a strong rookie season leading the Browns with 805 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 50 receptions. In Norv Turner's vertical passing offense, Gordon should have plenty of opportunities to make big plays.
Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer recently wrote, "The game comes outrageously easy for Josh Gordon, as he glides down the field. If Gordon keeps his concentration and work ethic at NFL caliber, he could have a breakout season in the new 'throw it downfield' offense. ..."
Now that breakout season will be delayed as Gordon will serve a two-game suspension to begin the year. To complicate matters a bit, he seems to be hanging around the wrong crowd.
Personally, I have Gordon ranked higher than many others (compare to other "experts" here), but my thought is that once he returns from his suspension in Week 3, he has a great chance to finish as a top-20 fantasy wide receiver from that point through the end of the year.
6.07 - Brendan Donahue (Team 2): Steve Smith, WR, Carolina Panthers
When the Panthers drafted Cam Newton, the No. 1 overall pick in 2011, Smith was coming off one of the worst seasons (46/554/2) of his NFL career.
In the two seasons with Newton under center, Smith has a total of 152 receptions for 2,568 yards and 11 touchdowns.
At 34 years of age, Smith may not have many more productive seasons left, but he should have a productive 2013 season.
6.08 - Sean Beazley (Team 2): Vernon Davis, TE, San Francisco 49ers
The Colin Kaepernick era started well for San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis. In Kaepernick's first start (Week 11), Davis had six catches for 83 yards and a score.
From there through the remainder of the regular season, however, Davis had a total of six receptions in the final six games and had more than 15 receiving yards only once (27 yards in Week 16).
That said, Davis had another strong postseason. In three games, he had 12 receptions for 254 yards and a touchdown with back-to-back 100-yard games in the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl. Last year, he had 292 yards and four touchdowns in two playoff games.
With five career postseason games under his belt, he has 100-plus yards in four of them (or 80 percent of his playoff games). In 104 regular-season games, he has only eight 100-yard games (or less than eight percent).
Considering the 49ers have lost wide receiver Michael Crabtree for at least the majority of the season with a torn Achilles, Davis could be the biggest beneficiary and see his targets increase significantly.
6.09 - Sean Beazley (Team 1): T.Y. Hilton, WR, Indianapolis Colts
The small (5-9, 183) but explosive playmaker had an impressive rookie season with 50 receptions for 861 yards and seven touchdowns. Only Jacksonville's Justin Blackmon had more receiving yards (865) among rookies last season.
In addition, Hilton gets the opportunity to play with one of the best young quarterbacks in the league.
6.10 - Brendan Donahue (Team 1): Matt Ryan, QB, Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta's Matt Ryan took a big step forward with his development in 2012. Ryan posted many career highs last year (previous highs in parenthesis): 68.6 completion percentage (62.5 percent), 4,719 passing yards (4,177) and 32 passing touchdowns (29).
The Falcons have arguably the league's top wide receiver duo in Julio Jones and Roddy White plus tight end Tony Gonzalez, who posted four-year highs with the Falcons last year, is going to play at least one more season.
In addition, their running game gets an upgrade with free-agent addition Steven Jackson, which could help open up the passing game even further for Ryan & Co.
6.11 - Dan Yanotchko (Team 1): Vick Ballard, RB, Indianapolis Colts
With the recent signing of free-agent running back Ahmad Bradshaw, Ballard's fantasy value has taken a huge hit in redraft leagues.
Although Ballard had 211 carries as a rookie, he averaged less four yards per carry and he will be stuck behind Bradshaw in a secondary role this season.
Apparently, Dan doesn't trust Bradshaw's ability to stay healthy and, in my opinion, reaches for Ballard here.
6.12 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Cecil Shorts, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
After catching only two passes for 30 yards in 2011, Shorts broke out in a big way in 2012. He finished the season with 55 receptions, 979 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 games.
Excluding the two games he missed after the bye, Shorts had at least 54 yards in all nine games he played during that stretch. From Week 7 until the end of the season, Shorts had 774 receiving yards, which ranked him 10th in the NFL, despite missing two games during that span.
With the four-game suspension of Blackmon to start the season, Shorts has a huge opportunity to build upon last year's success.
